The SOGAFAM (French acronym for "Gabon Drug Manufacturing Company") was created on the initiative of the Government, and was inaugurated the 12th of February 2005.

Located at the capital Libreville, in the industrial parc of Owendo, it is the first pharmaceutical manufacturing plant that produces dry oral forms.

SOGAFAM is affiliated to the Belgian company PROPHAREX that holds 40% of the shares. The remaining 60% belong to the Government of Gabon. Propharex built and installed the manufacturing plant.

The Owendo plant began production with paracetamol, a cheap and easy to use product, which was a good product to finalize training of the personnel, as well as getting used to all procedures and application of all GMP regulations.

Today, the SOGAFAM can lean on the continuous training of its personnel through a partnership with PROPHAREX. This transfer of competences is vital to ensure viability, continuity, and unfaltering quality of the production.
